Also you can control screen brightness, button brightness, etc. You don't need to use the screen really if you don't want to. Also the Roland has more hands on controls. So I had a head start on learning the workflow (which I always find painful on any workstation). I was thinking of going MODX but picked the Fantom because I'm already familiar with Roland's older workstations and MC-101. I like to use them to make new/weird sounds so what matters to me are the synthesis controls and FX. I would turn to VSTs first for something like a violin. But I still don't find Yamaha realistic enough to actually use so it always requires layering or heavy FX. On the rompler side, I think Yamaha outdoes Roland with orchestral and acoustic sounds (I had an MX49 so I'm comparing to Motif sounds). But I did get the Fantom-06 and am still digging in but so far I really like it and feel I made the right choice.
